We fund organizations working to secure universal health insurance coverage for children and families to ensure they have access to quality care and grow up healthy, confident, and ready to learn. As part of this work, we keep close track of trends through the help of the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families (CCF). In this report, CCF examines state trends for uninsured children.

The report finds that the number of children without insurance increased by approximately 726,000 between 2016 and 2019, reversing a long-standing positive trend. Forty-three percent of coverage losses over the past three years took place in Texas and Florida. Coverage losses were widespread across income, age, and race/ethnicity but were largest among White, Latino children.
