The Packard Foundation launched the Pediatrics Supporting Parents (PSP) initiative in 2014 to focus on how pediatric well-visits can help pediatricians and parents better partner to promote children’s social and emotional development and nurture parent-child relationships. In California, PSP has been working to explore the ways the state’s current health care delivery system can be strengthened to better deliver care in an equitable way that is family-centered and community-driven, but also addresses the whole child, including not only physical health but emotional and social well-being as well. We joined with other funding partners to support Manatt Health’s work on this paper, which explores the ways California’s existing health care delivery system through Medicaid and CHIP can be strengthened to better address the social and emotional development of young children through pediatric primary care.
