My research focuses on understanding isolated solid-Earth subsystems in detail, with the goal of integrating them to investigate the evolution of surface environments over Earth’s history. My active research encompasses two primary topics: (a) Volcano science (Magmatic processes in the subsurface, submarine volcanism, and satellite remote sensing – this involves theory, fieldwork, as well as geochemical data and time series analysis), (b) Geofluids & Geomechanics (Understanding rock rheology and fluid-rock reactions on a micro-scale; using seismic/acoustic data in the lab & field to investigate geophysical processes in real-time; understanding the fluid dynamics of volcanic plume dynamics in both the atmosphere and underwater – this involves theory, analog experiments, and numerical models). I also do cross-disciplinary work on icy satellite geophysics and volcano/tectonic-climate interactions, strongly focused on the biogeochemical and climate effects of volcanic eruptions.
