My group has discovered a series of fundamentally and practically important chemical reactions and defined several key principles in catalytic chemistry. Through the discovery and development of chiral Schiff base complexes of main group and transition metals and of novel organic catalysts, we have devised effective methods for a wide variety of stereoselective catalytic oxidative, hydrolytic, and carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions. The impact of our research approach is best evidenced by the fact that we have discovered and developed several extremely useful new catalyst systems that have been used widely in industry and academia.
