My research mainly focuses on quantum many-body systems with strong interaction and strong quantum fluctuation. In the last 20 years, our field has made tremendous progresses towards understanding and classifying exotic states of matter under extreme conditions. But we believe we have only understood the tip of the iceberg in this rapidly developing field. Most recently, more and more connections between traditionally different fields such as strongly interacting quantum matter, quantum information, and quantum gravity have been found. Many groups, including mine, are actively studying these intriguing connections, and a breakthrough in the entire theoretical physics may not be far from us. Inspired by a recent discovery that the long standing problem of the strange metal non-fermi liquid phase that was observed universally in high temperature superconductors, may have to do with another model (the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model), our group has constructed a realistic model that is very close to the real high temperature superconductor materials, and also can describe much of the “strange” physics of the strange metal phase.
