Our audited consolidated financial statements include the financial activities of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and its affiliate, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). MBARI is an affiliate of the Foundation because the Foundation is its sole member, appoints its board of directors, and provides a substantial majority of its financial support.
As a private foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation files a Form 990-PF each year with the Internal Revenue Service. This tax return provides detailed financial data, a complete list of grants awarded, and other information about our activities. The Form 990-PF provides a way for interested parties to quickly review the business operations of a grantmaking foundation and assess how its resources are being directed. It typically contains information such as total amount of grants paid out by the foundation; a list of officers, directors, trustees and managers; compensation rates for the foundation’s highest paid employees; and administrative costs associated with foundation operations. In addition, the Foundation also files a Form 990-T, an exempt organization business income tax return.
