The Kiger laboratory is studying central roles for cellular membrane trafficking that controls tissue remodeling and homeostasis. We have uncovered how spatiotemporal regulation of specific lipids coordinate dynamic cellular organization. Using a foundation in genetic and cell biology experiments in the fruit fly, Drosophila, we have linked specific lipid kinase and phosphatase activities to cellular remodeling. Our work has identified conserved mechanisms of membrane regulation in immune and muscle cell functions, providing insights into related human diseases.
