The Packard Foundation condemns the attack on former President Trump. We send our sympathy to the victims and all those affected by this violence and wish former President Trump a speedy recovery.
We unequivocally condemn violence as having any role in our political process. We have many ways in our political system to work out conflicts peaceably – conflict is inevitable and can be transformative – but violence has no place in a healthy democracy.
We are now at a perilous moment where the risk of violence and harassment, which is already dangerously on the rise, can escalate further. Now is the time for all of us across the country to step forward with a recommitment to civility and respect in our civic discourse and to upholding peaceful, free, and fair elections as the foundation of our democracy.
